Belgium is a small country (11,730 square Miles, the size of Maryland) with a population of slightly less than 10 million. It has been a constitutional monarchy since 1830. There are three languages (Dutch, French and German). However, English is widely spoken. The three regions (Flanders, Wallonia and Brussels) have self-government in many spheres. Belgium has retained its old-world charm in the preservation of its ancient buildings and historical traditions.
Brussels Airport is connected with frequent trains to the centre of the town. The ride takes 17 minutes. Cathedrals, castles, old world charm, modern art, and lots of friendly faces are just some of the things that await you in Belgium's fantastic cities.

Antwerp
Antwerp, daughter of the River Scheldt is the second largest city of Belgium. The 500,000 inhabitants call it the 'Metropolis' (Antwerpians are known in Belgium for not being too modest). This city has so many different facets that it takes a while before one gets to know it thoroughly.
Antwerp is the second largest harbour of Europe (after Rotterdam). Moreover, Antwerp is a splendid city with numerous architectural highlights, most of which date from the 16th (the golden era of Antwerp) and the 17th century. The destruction of the Second World War, unfortunately, has scarred somehow the fair face of the old town. Still there are enough monuments left for those who like monument hopping to spend a few days admiring them. The past is also represented by the numerous paintings of Peter Paul Rubens who lived in the Antwerp of the early 17th century.
Antwerp is the diamond centre of the World. If diamonds really are a girl's best friend, than a lot of ladies will not leave out a visit to the diamond district around the Railway Station. This area is also the Jewish part of the city.
The presence of many 'Chassidic' Jewish people gives the city a flair that cannot be found in other Belgian cities. Now fashionable Antwerp, however, does not only live from the past. As one would expect from a port city, there is a red light district, known locally as the love carousel, but there is also a thriving nightlife besides. This is particularly true of the old city and especially around the Cathedral.
Brussels
Officially, Brussels was founded in the year 979, but legend and non-confirmed stories suggest that the origin of the city has to be the end of the 6th century. It was then that the Preacher Saint Gorik built a little chapel on a small island formed by two arms of the Zenne, the river that still is part of Brussels.
Over the years, Brussels becomes more and more important. Brussels has become the capital of the European Union and houses NATO. Now Brussels has found the balance between modern and historical, with an abundance of fine hotels and some unusual venues besides. These include The Concert Noble, The Royal Museums of Art and History, The Comic Strip Centre, The Autoworld Museum and the landmark
Atonium.
