Have
your clients ever wanted to hike across a lava field or bike across wild
terrain on rough roads? Have they ever wanted to study at close range
basalt structures or examine a still smoking volcano or bubbling
fumarole? Or listen to a glacier inching forwards or disintegrating into
ice floes on a glacial lagoon?
Do they long to see great northern
divers on a remote mountain lake, or puffins preening themselves on
cliff edges? Would they like to ride horseback in unpopulated valleys
and watch Arctic foxes weave their way between mossy tussocks and
rough-hewn lava? If they have ever dreamed of any of these, then Iceland
is the destination for them.
As with Arctic Finland, Iceland
represents a different choice offering a country of stunning natural
beauty and plenty of options and room for outdoor activities.
The island offers once in a lifetime
opportunity to watch the young (in geological terms) developing
landscape. You can stand at the point where the European and American
land masses join and physically see the gap widen.
Everywhere
is the conflict between fire (volcanic), ice, and between light and
dark. In the high summer there is light 24 hours, in the winter a dull
twilight is the closest you will come to daylight.
The capital Reykjavik contains 100,000,
half of the island's total. For a place so small there is a surprising
lively night lie in the two main centre streets. Fabulous incentive
trips include the Blue Lagoon geothermal pool, glacier and volcano
watching, sledding, kayaking, igloo building, jeep safaris, white water
rafting, skidoos, and so on.
Drawbacks are high consumables prices,
the lack of 5* star venues and large meeting facilities. Having said
that, Iceland has a lot to offer small to medium size groups looking for
something different.
